Dolphin: Integrate databases of Amarok, digiKam, etc.

Something what I miss in KDE and really like in Win7 (

) is the possibilty to put all the music or video-files in one "folder", not important where they are. (local volume, network-filesystem, etc. )

I think it would be great to integrate the databases of some applications in this way.

As example: Amarok

(musikdatenbank (german) = musicdatabase , forgot the scrollbar in the mockup :((

You could simply add music with "drag&drop" to the database or look at all your music-files (or video, picture, ) on your computer (things in database) without opening the specific application.

This is much faster, as example, when you just want to show some Holiday-Pictures, it is faster to navigate in Dolphin to "Picture database > Holidays > abcd " than using the normal folder-navigation.

That's it: A powerful application with a database, but very fast access with dolphin, when you don't need all these features of the powerful application.

I know it obfuscates the "real" datastructure but it is faster, and, for the most people who don't care about folderpaths and things like that, mutch easier

I want to propose to a developer to make a plasmoid that indicates when we have the cups lock, num lock enabled. In KDE 3.5 it had a karamba for this

Coolris is a firefox-plugin.

Its a very cool way to surf on some websites, but the most interesting thing is the view of local files.
I think it is much more comfortable to view your photo album in this way.
For normal files it is useless, but it is great for pictures.
Sadly, it needs the adobe Flash player. Because of that, it could lag on some linux pcs.

That's my idea: A new function "3d wall" in dolphin (button near the preview-button). This function should use opengl, only activated when Compositing works.

It is much eyecandy and seems maybe useless, at the first moment. But when you try it a longer time it is just great

Don't start screensaver when firefox plays videos fullscreen

Title says it all: while watching videos in fullscreen mode via the flash plugin I have to manually switch off the screensaver and disable the "turn off monitor".
Is there a way to implement in KDE this check, like it works for Kaffeine? (I know Firefox isn't a QT application, but I think most KDE users don't use Konqueror as main web browser)

Volume test button

Pressing a button/icon/menu choice in KMix or some other more appropriate widget, you could get a volume test - the system would start playing a very silent sound but the volume would increase gradually, until it reached the user's current set volume. The user would have a button handy which would immediately stop the test should the sound become to loud.

This would come handy to all users of analog volume wheels on their machines (either some laptops or external speakers) since looking at the current system volume level can be misleading.

The purpose would of course be to not wake somebody up, make a scene at a library or quickly check if the volume is up (e.g. waiting for a KAlarm notification, would be faster than hunting down a random media file to check volume). At the moment, the way this is done is usually by turning the volume down all the way and then slowly turning it back up to an acceptable level.

No the most important of ideas around here, but it should be easy to make (I'm tempted to try coding it myself, maybe as plasmoid at first) and I do believe it adds value to many users.

Plasmoid Calendar: Calendar events view and edit

This idea is for a plasmoid calendar with a Kontact/Akonadi integration that provides simple view of registered events and a simple editing function.

Usage case: The mockup shows the procedure of adding a new event to the calendar. Days that have events are highlighted. Clicking on a day brings up a mini event list. Events are shown in order and include 'time', 'alarm'(highlighted when set), 'title' and mini 'description'. At the bottom of the event list there is an 'add' action, which brings up a larger panel to input the event's info. On the left hand-side of this new panel are the 'accept' and 'delete' actions, while on the right is a button that will launch Kontact for the specific event. Inputting the event's info is done by clicking on the appropriate fields. Once done, click the 'accept' button to finish editing and add the event to the list, or the 'delete' to reject it.
Existing events from the list are also clickable, bringing again the same editing panel. This allows editing or deleting existing events, or invoking Kontact for that particular event.
Colour coding indicates the type of an event. The mockup uses 'blue' for recurrent events (e.g. every second Tuesday, the user has 'Lunch with Kate'). Setting recurrent events requires launching Kontact, unless a simple UI can be found for this.

Rationale: Most calendar events are simple, thus making it possible to use a minimalistic interface for simple viewing and editing. Invoking a full blown calendar application, such as Kontact, to check or set simple events is cumbersome and inefficient.

Change default shortcut for KRunner to ALT+SPACEBAR

I'm almost sure this idea will not get any votes from linux-only users, but I'll post it anyways

A lot of (power)users on windows use the program "launchy" which resembles krunner a lot, and it has the really handy shortcut ALT+SPACEBAR, which is much more convenient to use than ALT+F2. So the idea is to change the default shortcut so it is consistent with launchy. Try it, and you will like it more!
To use ALT+F2, I have to stretch my left hand and get my fingers off of the "fdsq" keys to press the F2 key. The alt key I can easily do with my left thumb. So when using ALT+SPACEBAR, I can leave my fingers on the "fdsq" keys, and do the shortcut with my two thumbs, and immediately start typing.

Very often we make screenshots to post them on web/show them to our friends.
to do that we need make a screenshot using KSnapshot, save it to disc and then open a browser and upload it somewhere (ok, at least drag it to pastebin plasmoid).

Wouldn't it be much simplier to add a direct button?
it could use a Kipi export plugin.

Different Wallpapers for different days.

I'm not sure if this Idea can actually be implemented but what I was thinking is that in the wallpaper system for KDE there could be an option where you can a different wallpaper for everyday.

The way I was thinking it could be implemented is by either having 1 Folder for the wallpapers and the images have a set naming convention e.g(01_05.jpg Note: Maybe different depending on the users preference.) or by having the main folder, then having a folder for the month and within the separate month folders there would be the images with the filenames of the day they show.

An Example of this would be Wallpaper/May/01.jpg

Live printing preview

Hi,

I hope the most of you are familiar with the printing dialog of acrobat reader...

For the ones that are not here a little screenshot..

Well my idea is now to get such a dialog done in kde, expecially the printing preview..

Its actually very hard to print something more special than a one sided print...

specially its really a mess to get 4 or more pages on one paper in the right direction you want, especially when you want to print the pages in reverse order...

Don't want to talk about duplex printing...

I never get the really right setup in the current printing dialog. I know that I know that theres the option to influence the printing direction, but its a really complex to order the pages in my mind before setting everything up...

A little nifty picture would make much more easier...
