Overview
The main interface has three sections, the header, the dashboard and the body.
1. The header has the
reload button on the left, the
New Idea and the
dashboard toggle button in the center and the
FAQs button towards the right. It also has the category selector to switch between ideas belonging to different criteria.
2. The dashboard, offering the users a choice to select from a range of idea filters. This is discussed in the
Idea filters section.
3. The body, which is a dynamic area that is updated by AJAX. It displays idea lists, individual ideas, and new post forms.d
Idea categories
KDE Brainstorm categorizes ideas into the following groups:
General: All valid idea submissions that can be voted upon.In Development: Ideas being worked upon are moved to here.Already implemented: All ideas already implemented will be moved here.Done: When an idea addressed by a developer and implemented it gets moved here.Wont fix: When the developer decides to reject the idea it will be moved here.Duplicate: This ideas have been already posted.Invalid: Every invalid idea will be moved here.Submitted: Ideas that are submitted to bugs.kde.org or are already in there.Idea Vault: Area where all unapproved ideas go. Once approved, they are sent to the General section.
Voting on ideas
The voting pad shows the vote count, individual upvotes and downvotes and the arrows for casting the vote.
Voting is handled by an AJAX request, and the user can cast and update his/her votes. Voting works without JavaScript as well.
For users with appropriate permissions, the votepad also allows the user to approve/reject an idea. Approved ideas are moved from the Vault to the Valid Ideas area, while rejecting them moves them to the Invalid area.
Posting new ideas To submit your idea, click on the
New Idea button.
Your idea's title should not be generic, and it should reflect the idea's scope briefly.
The description should be self explanatory.
You can embed images hosted at third party hosting sites. Please consider scaling down the image to a size that does not break the page layout while embedding images.
Usage of BBCode tags and smiley codes are allowed.
You can also add tags to your idea in
comma separated format. This is further discussed in the
Tagging ideas area.
Idea filters The dashboard offers the following idea filters:
Order By Popularity: Ideas are ordered by the number of votes they have been given.Randon Ideas: Shows all ideas in a random order.Unvoted Ideas: Shows there ideas where the users hasn't casted his/her vote.Filter by Time: Filter the ideas by their date of submission.Show Vault: Shows all ideas that have been held for moderator approval. The vault does not allow a user to cast a vote. Although comments can be posted or edited inside the vault. Once ideas are approved, vault ideas go into the Valid Ideas section. The time filters work in combination with the other filters. For example, clicking on
Popular and selecting a time filter will filter the ideas sorted according to their votes. Similarly, choosing a time filter and clicking on
Unvoted will show all such ideas belonging to the specified time filter. To clear all filters, click on
Home or any other option from the category bar.
Tagging ideas Ideas can be assigned one or more tags using the
Tag Editor . The tag editor appears on the
New Idea page and on the
View Idea page.
Tags must be entered as comma separated values. Tags with spaces in between are treated as one tag.
For example:
amarok, music player, multimedia are three tags. Clicking on tags will take you outside KDE Brainstorm to the tag search tool.
Ideas tags also show up on the forum's tagcloud on the index page. Please consider using more specific words for tags (ie, please avoid tags like
kde or
idea ). Tags are case insensitive.
Subscribing to ideas
You can subscribe to an idea by clicking the
icon. Posting a new idea or adding a comment to an idea automatically subscribes you to that idea.
Reporting duplicates
To report a duplicate idea post, visit the idea that you believe is a
duplicate and click on the Report
button.
You should see the
Report duplicate forum. Enter the idea ID of the
original idea in the text box. The idea idea can be found at the top right of every idea on the category and idea views. Once you click "Submit", your request will be queued for processing by the Idea Moderators and Forum staff. Once approved, the respective idea will be marked as a duplicate of the other idea.
