Re: Krita for Windows? When?

Haven't had much chance to check out these builds yet, but regarding dynamics and weighting...

In this other thread http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=139&t=111228 I pointed out an issue with smoothing, which was promptly fixed. However, on closer inspection I found that it still wasn't quite on par with Painter; my circles were coming out ever so slightly wobblier and linework was more difficult to control... so much so that I reverted to Painter for the sketching side of things. However...

Then I started experimenting with the dynamic movements tool, and found that I could get almost EXACTLY the same fluidity as Painter by setting the Mass at 0.01, and the Drag at about 0.95. It was such an improvement that I decided to assign the "b" shortcut to the dynamic movements tool, and now I use it exclusively instead of the brush tool. The only problem with this is having to set Mass to 0.01 and Drag to 0.95 every time I start up Krita.

Which brings me to this: would it not make sense for the dynamic movements tool and the brush tool to be combined into one? Dynamic movements behaviour seems to be identical to the brush tool when set to Mass: 0.00 and Drag: 1.00, so do they really need to be separate?

You may consider this a feature request. ;)

P.S. Thanks for confirming on the saving issue odysseus-art.

That's interesting... I never imagined that the two tools could give similar results. I can make the settings you use the default for the dynamic movements tool -- could you report that to bugs.kde.org, so I don't forget?

Do you mean adding the ability to load the user's settings for the tool as default, or making my particular settings the default?

Make your settings default -- making the tools remember settings is a lot more work!

It isnt a big thing but hey - we all want Krita to be PERFECT, right? I noticed today that Krita 64bit is installing into C:\Program Files (x86)\Krita (64). In windows 64bit versions are installed in C:\Program Files. Just to keep things tight, you may want to fix it in next installer whenever it comes.

I tried to fix that, but the scripts Stuart made for creating installers need a lot of change -- even though everything is built as x64 modules, the installer assumes that it is x86 and refuses to install them to Program Files :-(.

I don't really know yet where to change that...

Ok, well in that case I better do some more testing to make sure I've got the ideal settings! Dynamic movements tool is a bit broken in the current build so I might need to go back a couple of versions.

Can someone confirm that some blending modes are broken? Eg painting with gray color in overlay mode (or was color dodge?) it gives orange result? Some of mixing blending modes seems give randomly blue or orange colors.
But maybe it is this way because I didn't erased my previous settings from /appData/Krita ...

I just checked on latest 64bit build - everything seems fine here.

I am very happy with the latest built, excellent work! In fact, at the moment it is better than the lime version in linux, whose latest update has some stability and freezing issues.
I also didn t notice anything unusual with the blending modes. Only obvious issues are the weighted smoothing/scratchpad bug and the ocasional crash if I mess too much with the brush creator in one session.

Some minor ones:
The fav palette issue in full screen somehow returned, and sometimes the eyedropper tool icon doesn't go away when I switch back to brush.
The classic shortcuts still disappear in every session: resize image/ canvas, copy/paste and some others.

Overall this is heading to a great direction, well done!

I agree, this windows version of Krita is the best one yet. NO OTHER drawing program out there can compete with Krita's features atm. It is a truly awesome program that I'd pay money for if it went commercial lol. ;D

I found a bug, that makes it impossible to paint after disabling 'preserve alpha' button next to eraser.
Just create layer paint a stroke. Then lock it by 'preserve alpha' and then unlock. Layer stays locked. Workaround is to press lock and then unlock on layer in Layer panel.

I said that already, double checked it just now - I dont experience any problem with multiply mode whatsoever. It paints just good here on latest 64bit build..

Ah, ok. I had to ask again, because previously I have written that it was overlay mode, that is broken, but in fact it is multiply. Anyway I tested it at home, and here it works ok, so something is not good with my pc at work :/ ...

edit. Cleaning all appdata kirta files did the trick. Blending modes work ok. Maybe this will help someone in future.
