I wrote this article partly to spread the news about digiKam and partly because I wanted to write a beginners tutorial for it. I hope I accomplished both goals.

That's too good to confine to a blog. Userbase has a Digikam page, but it is way out of date. I think all the screenshots are very old, too. How about editing that page, cutting out most of the old stuff and putting your comments in, then linking to a fresh page with all your tutorial? I'll help you if you like. It would be really valuable there.

You can download the images by right clicking on them (or their link) and saving them to your computer. You can then upload them wherever you want. Normally you wouldn't have permission to do that due to copy right, but I am hereby granting you access to those images. :)

Nice job. The only thing I noticed is that when clicking on the images it does not take you to a large enough image (900 x 600) as it does on my version. Do you think you could include the larger images as well? They are handy to see more of the detail, especially the original and the final versions of the image worked on. Or are they too big?

I don't know what to think about that. Using the link on the site, it takes you to a version that is 900 x 598 - http://temporaryland.files.wordpress.co ... _raw1.jpeg for instance. That's how I've been getting the pics.

OK. So, if you didn't resize them, then that means that they were resized automatically when you uploaded them. This is common. Many times there is an option on the uploading page for allowing larger size images. Another option is to link to the image on my blog instead, but then I can't promise that that blog will be there indefinitely.

I had to be out all day today, so didn't have time to investigate this. I'm not even working on the same laptop as when I did it, so don't have access to the downloaded file. What I can see is that the uploaded file is 459 × 304 px, only one quarter of the size of the original.

I need to see what size the file is on my laptop. There will be a maximum size for uploading, but with the uploaded image being 15KB, that's nowhere near it. I'll investigate tomorrow, all being well. I'll also look at some other uploaded files and see whether there is an automatic scaling.

I don't like the idea of linking to your blog, for the very reason you gave. I'll come back on this when I have something to report.
