KDE: bookmarks on the file dialog

Sat Nov 24, 2012 8:50 am
Hi,
I used to see bookmarks created with a file manager (Krusader, for instance) on the left margin of any file dialog. On a new install I can't see them any more. It's probably a matter of configuration, but I don't have a clue about where to look.

I can see 'Places'. There are no Krusader-created bookmarks there.

In Krusader, make sure the bookmarks you created are not limited to Krusader itself. You can check this by editing the bookmarks you have created and make sure the "Only show in..." box is unchecked.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I can't find the "Only shown in..." checkbox (Krusader, that is). Neither in Bookmark Editor->Edit nor in Bookmark Editor->Settings.

There are different kind of "bookmarks":

1) File dialog
1a) Places panel items - stored in ~/.kde/share/apps/kfileplaces/bookmarks.xml
Editing/managing via the Places contextmenu
Items can be global or per application with "Only show in..." checked
1b) Bookmarks - stored in ~/.kde/share/apps/kfile/bookmarks.xml
Enabled with Options->Show Bookmarks in the toolbar
Editing/managing via Bookmarks in the toolbar and via Bookmark Editor
These bookmarks are global
2) Application specific bookmarks in ~/.kde/share/apps/
e.g.:
konqueror/bookmarks.xml shared by Konqueror/rekonq
konsole/bookmarks.xml used only in Konsole
krusader/krbookmarks.xml used only in Krusader
etc.
Editing/managing via Bookmarks menu in each application and via Bookmark Editor

Afaik there is no way to edit the file dialog bookmarks in Krusader or any other application.

Thanks! I will keep in mind this valuable info.

It used to happen all by itself, unless my memory plays a nasty trick on me. Which is probably it. Sorry.
