I've been using a popular proxy service along with utorrent in windows for a while. A month or two ago I decided to shift over to using that same proxy with Ktorrent. Here I've been downloading...you know... linux distributions and what not for a while. But for some reason I decided to check the IP with http://www.checkmytorrentip.com and was a little shocked to see that my real IP was shining through. I fired up utorrent and checked and the proxy IP was returned as it should be.

I saw at least one other forum thread where a user complained about proxy settings being ignored but didn't see a resolution.

I should mention, in case it's relevant, that I'm running Kubuntu on vmware player. Would this have any effect on the issue, as in bridged networking perhaps? From everything I've seen the bridged network works just like a separate computer with it's own IP would work. Servers, firewall, everything works as expected...except this.

Bridged networking should not have an effect upon this.
I would recommend filing a bug if one doesn't already exist - as no solution was reached last time either if I recall.

It seems as if the proxy settings are just ignored. I checked my firewall logs for activity on port 1025 (the proxy port being used) and there was none.

Which version of KTorrent are you using?

Kubuntu is distributing 4.2.1. I tried 4.3.1 as we discussed in another thread, when I did manage to get it to compile and install..it did the same thing. Granted I'm not 100% sure it was a good compile and install but I used it to download a kubuntu dvd and it went fast, but it leaked my IP when i tested at checkmytorrentip.com.

Today I've tested Ktorrent, Azureus/Vuze,Transmission, and finally Deluge. Azureus seemed promising at first, it reported the IP it should have, except nothing would actually download. Magnet links worked, albeit slow to kick in...but when it came to connecting to peers via the tracker...nothing took hold. Testing Transmission didn't take long, no support for proxies at all. Then I found Deluge, another one of only a handful of clients mentioned at the btguard support site. Bingo! The proxy settings were very detailed and it supports using the proxy for peer, web seed, tracker, and dht. When using checkmytorrentip.com says im in the netherlands (working as intended).

Don't get me wrong...I like Ktorrent., but I can't use it it seems. I'm happy to keep troubleshooting and tinkering with it if it will help development or there's a chance we can make it work. But in the meantime I'm happy I found a solution, and I thought I'd mention it here for google to index.
