[SOLVED] Alt+F1 not working.

[SOLVED] Alt+F1 not working.
Recently I have encountered interesting issue with kde-4.2.1 (compiled from gentoo packages). I have noticed that my Application Launcher shortcut doesn't work. Interestingly though, other plasma shortcut - Show Dashboard works. If I set it to Alt+F1, then it works too, so there is unlikely to be a conflict with any other application. No combination works for either Application Launcher or K-menue.
Also, it doesn't matter whether I enable or disable desktop effects.
If I create a new user, then this combination works (I had no old configs for current user though). It is nut much a problem, rather a challenge to find out what the issue is. Any ideas?

you can try this:
kill plasma:
- Code: Select all
kquitapp plasma
then check your plasma-appletsrc with
- Code: Select all
vim `kde4-config --localprefix`/share/config/plasma-appletsrc`
and look for "plugin=launcher" entry.
Mine show this:
- Code: Select all
[Containments][22][Applets][24]
geometry=0,4,34,34
immutability=1
plugin=launcher
zvalue=333
[Containments][22][Applets][24][Configuration]
Height=530
Width=482
[Containments][22][Applets][24][Shortcuts]
global=Alt+F1
I think adding the last part could solve your problem (just change the numbers between [#]). At least, solved mine.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, it didn't help. For some reason plasma-appletsrc removes this entry after I quit plasma. Can't see any relevant error messages in the logs. Shortcut still doesn't work.[hr]
removing .kde4/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc helped (for some reason).
Now I am unable to mark the topic as solved :undecided:

You're welcome... but the fix is not "mine", I remember that I've read it somewhere in this forum.
