Enable inline spell check in kate/kwrite? [solved: not yet possible]

Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:20 pm
Hi,
can anybody tell me how to enable in-line or on-the-fly spell-check in kate or kwrite? I have it in input boxes when I use konqueror but having it in kate would be very helpful. The notes plasmoid is using it, too.
Thanks a lot for suggestions.

As far as I am aware they do not support this feature yet. If you cannot find an already existing feature request, then you are welcome to file a feature request for this. Please post the link(s) to the bug(s) you find / file. Thanks in advance.

Well, when I saw the menu option, I thought that kate or kwrite is able to inline spellcheck. I was so sure that I saw the feature in an alpha or beta version (Maybe it was just a whish). That's why I asked here.
However, there is a rather old bugreport here: Inline spell check. I would like to see it combined with these two whishes which are both nice ideas: No spell check on commands and comments and dialog like "find and replace"

I had a hard look for it and found it. It does work in 4.2 trunk, but only if there are spelling mistakes present. Otherwise it does not show anything. You may wish to search for / file a bug noting that it should show something when there are no spelling mistakes.

Thanks for checking. I've 4.2 trunk installed but don't see the red wave under a misspelled word as I do in the plasma notes applet. Normal spell checking works. Do I have to enable it separately as in the plasmoid? Could it be because of the update from KDE 4.1? Maybe it lacks some configuration options in katerc.

There appears to be a Data tools editor plugin, however enabling it had no effect.

With regard to red underline in Kate / KWrite, you are correct the feature is not present. It would probably be best implemented in the Data tools plugin I mentioned above.

Thanks again, I think so, too, as it does not much sense to have it enabled while writing code. Now I just wish I were better in coding that I could do it myself. :)
If you don't mind I mark this tread solved.
