Hi,
I am using KDE 4.1.2 on Kubuntu, and I miss the handy button from the panel that minimizes all windows and shows the desktop plasmoid. Could someone tell me how to add that button? I've looked everywhere, but I couldn't find it...as far as I know, it is available under SUSE.
Thanks,
Daniel

Right click on panel -> Add widgets.
Add the "Show Desktop" widget to your panel. This widget is basically the Minimize all applet with a different name.

If you don't have that widget in your list it's probably because you are running Hardy, which doesn't have kdeplasma-addons installed by default. Install kdeplasma-addons and run kbuildsycoca4 from the console (alternatively just log out/back in) and the widget should then be available from the list along with a bunch of other goodies. Kubuntu Intrepid has kdeplasma-addons by default. ;-)

I've tried that, but there is no such widget avaliable on my system (this is a Kubunutu distribution of KDE 4.1.2). Is there any place I can download that widget from?

See the new paragraph my updated post. I'd hoped I could edit it before you read it but, eh, oh well. :)

Do you know if it's possible to add a "keyboard shortcut" to use it?

I don't think that's possible right now.

The Show Dashboard function (button and keyboard shortcut) is practically the same as Show Desktop, except that even the panel is "hidden". That one has a keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+F12 by default. You can change that in System Settings -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> KDE Component: Plasma.

I set mine to Win+D :D

actually, you can associate a keyboard shortcut with *any* plasmoid you want.

right now you have to do it by hand, though ... kquitapp plasma; vim `kde4-config --localprefix`/share/config/plasma-appletsrc; find the plugin.. put a [Containment][#][Applet][#][Shortcuts] group with a global= entry. start plasma. voila.

yeah, not user friendly.

hopefully we'll have the integrated UI for it in 4.2 =)

Wow cool! Thanks aseigo! That brought Alt+F1 back. But still looking forward to that UI. :P

This should definitely be in the FAQ. :D
