Mouse wheel cycling

Fri Mar 15, 2013 3:48 pm
Hi,

There are several places in KDE where mouse wheel cycling causes certain events:

* On the desktop to move among virtual desktops
* The virtual desktop pager widget to move among desktops
* The task bar to move among open apps
* Konsole tab bar to move among open tabs
* Konqueror/Dolphin to move among open tabs

There might be more places, but of the previous list, I have found only one place where I can disable that behavior: desktop cycling. For myself I can "tolerate" the cycling in konsole, konqueror, and dolphin, but I'd like to disable cycling in the task bar. Is there a way to disable cycling?

If not then perhaps this thread should be moved to brainstorming?

I believe this is more than just a convenience issue. This is also an accessibility issue. Unintended/accidental cycling is disruptive to work flow and concentration.

BTW, I checked and none of the Input Device mouse settings affect cycling, so that is not a work-around.

Thanks. :)

Sorry. Not icon tasks but smooth tasks. I confused this two plasmoids.

Compile smooth tasks from there https://bitbucket.org/flupp/smooth-tasks-fork and add the panel to panel.

Smooth tasks is quite configurable. I'm sure you can figure out from there.

Thanks, but that is not the approach I'm seeking. :) There are several places where mouse wheel cycling affects usability. Like many options, some people like the cycling and some don't. Users should decide. A simple check box would suffice in each of the affected areas.

Well, I would be glad to see more global configuration options for all apps like tabs behavior (middle mouse button close tab/detach tab) but this would need additional lib and there is no way all application would use it so i'm afraid there is no way to get this right.
