Search in file dialog

Fri Mar 29, 2013 11:31 am
After opening the File Dialog to open a particular file I just intuitively pressed the Ctrl-F shortcut to search for the file in my slightly underorganized filesystem hierarchy. Unfortunately my intuition seems to have preceded the implementation of this potentially useful feature :)

In summary, what I would propose is:
- To be able to use the Nepomuk based search function in the KDE File Dialog, in a similar way to which it is available in Dolphin.
- Pressing Ctrl-F (or another configured shortcut) would bring up the search dialog, defaulting to a dialog with just the simple options.
- The feature might be exposed with a search button as well.

I did a search through this forum and a general search engine, but couldn't find a similar proposal.

Update: It's already possible to search for files using nepomuksearch:/<search string> in the address bar. The building blocks are in place!

Just enter
nepomuksearch:/<searchterm>

either in the filename entry or the location bar of the dialog ;)

Yes, that's what I found out as well. But it would be nice if this feature is exposed in the way it is in Dolphin; with a search button and a shortcut which would present you a search dialog.
