Open new windows on main screen

Sun Apr 15, 2012 1:15 pm
In my dual screen setup I new windows often do not open on the main screen, even if cursor and the focused window are on this screen. So usally I need to pull new windows to the main screen before I can start using them. Is there some option to avoid this?

"kcmshell4 kwinoptions", check "active screen follows mouse" (you need a multiscreen setup to see the item)

some applications (*cough* mozilla *cough*) might still consider to rather open somewhere else, right now you can try a rule to enforce a position or ignore the requested geometry on them ("kcmshell4 kwinrules" or special window/application settings)

With latest Firefox that seems to be fixed \o/

Thanks. I find that it works in many cases. One unfortunate example is klipper in which case the history list (which I get by pressing the shortcut) is usually opened on the second screen.

I filled a bugreport for the klipper issue.

I'm having this problem will *all* applications. They seem to always open on my left screen, no matter which one is the primary one. I'm using kscreen for my dual monitor setup, that may have to do with it.

Windows don't open on the primary but the active screen (unless they demand a specific position or you set up a rule to enforce a screen or position for the window) - see comments above about configuring what the "active" screen is.
