KDE4 SC

Sun Feb 24, 2013 10:52 am
I have checked my freebsd system today, and I need to upgrade a lot of files, including KDE. The file /usr/ports/UPDATING
mentioned

20130203:
AFFECTS: users of KDE SC 4
AUTHOR: kde@FreeBSD.org

KDE SC ports have been updated to 4.9.5. kdemultimedia4, kdenetwork4,
kde-runtime and kde-workspace ports have been split, they must be
deinstalled before running any port upgrade tool:

# pkg_delete -f kdemultimedia-4\* kdenetwork-4\* \
kde-workspace-4\* kde-runtime-4\*

Anyone know what it means?

I think you would need to ask on the FreeBSD forum, but I would guess that the packaging system used does not or has not been set up to automatically handle the situation where theses particular packages have been split

found this post which seems to comfirm my suspicion http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=37936

There is another example:
Code:
20130203:
AFFECTS: users of KDE SC 4
AUTHOR: kde@FreeBSD.org

KDE SC ports have been updated to 4.9.5. kdemultimedia4, kdenetwork4,
kde-runtime and kde-workspace ports have been split, they must be
deinstalled before running any port upgrade tool:

# pkg_delete -f kdemultimedia-4\* kdenetwork-4\* \
kde-workspace-4\* kde-runtime-4\*
In this case it would be very useful to add these rules as metadata to the package itself to let the pkg handle it on its own.
