Hi,
I have MacBookPro 11,1 and installed Ubuntu (64bit non-Mac ISO) as per the instruction given in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro11-1/Saucy and installed kubuntu-desktop. I couldnt use the kubuntu ISO directly as it didnt boot automatically. The problem im facing is, when I connect the external monitor im unable to position it. When i try, System Settings forgets the external monitor. OS: Kubuntu 14.04 (64bit) Hardware: MacBookPro 11,1 Intel Haswell Monitor: Samsung S24C350L, 23" Im posting here for the first time (though using kubuntu for the past 5 years). Please let me know the right forum, it this is not. Appreciate your help. PS: not sure how to attach screen shot. |

Surprisingly, my DELL U2412M 24" monitor works perfectly fine. Dont know how to fix the display for the above mentioned Samsung monitor. Any help is appreciated.

What is the output of "xrandr -q"? Also, how are you connecting the two monitors?

Yes, that is the needed output in this case.
Also, please ensure the systemsettings area is enabled - then run System Settings in a terminal and post the output it generates when you are trying to use it to configure the position of your monitors here.

Thanks a lot bcooksley for your time and help. Sorry i couldnt reply soon.
To summarize, there are two problems. 1. with DELL P2412H monitor, im unable to turn off the laptop display. here is the output of the command systemsettings.
2. with samsung monitor, im unable to position the samsung display nor be able to turn off the laptop display and here is the output.
This is what i did.
Ran systemsettings from konsole; selected Display and Monitor; connected the monitor Please let me know whether this helps. |

Can you please provide the output of the "kscreen-console" command? It seems probable that the monitors are changing their identifiers on each connection.
