Home Folder in Dolphin

Tue Oct 14, 2008 3:46 am
I installed FreeBSD with the default partitions, and so my home folder is actually on the /usr partition. /home/username is just a symlink to /usr/home/username.

The problem is that when I open dolphin, it defaults to "Root > usr > home > username", instead of just "Home". In the places sidebar, Root is selected instead of Home.

Any idea how this can be fixed? I'm using KDE 4.1.1 (the latest version in the FreeBSD ports collection).

Hmm, and what's value of $HOME?
Perhaps this should be reported as a bug for dolphin, you can get in contact with developers this way.

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know", Alice answered. "Then", said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

where does clicking on the "Home" entry in the sidebar take you?

$HOME is set to /usr/home/username, but after running

Code: Select all
% export HOME=/home/username
% dolphin

it still opens to "Root > usr > home > username".

Clicking "Home" in the sidebar works as expected, taking me to /home/username/. In fact, going from "Root > home > username" will take me to "Home".

I'll see about submitting a bug if I can't fix it with a setting (otherwise, it would be a porting mistake).[hr]
Ah, I think I figured it out.

I had to go to Settings > Configure Dolphin... and set the home folder location to file:///home/username . Now everything works as expected.

Thx for this. Took me awhile to figure out.
