on kde4.3: I installed a .ttf font the other day, System Settings->Fonts Installer->Add and I can use it in KDE based applications. Now I want to use it in emacs. Unfortunately I cannot cause it's not visible. xlsfonts doesn't see it either.

Is there any kind of setup where X and KDE fonts are "in sync"? There is an /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, but all the right font directories are specified in there. Any ideas?

As far as I am aware, KDE installs user fonts into ~/.fonts which is a path supported by FontConfig. It is possible that terminal applications don't look there.
