I'm new to KDE and after having figured out how to get KDE up and running I ran into a new problem. Gimp won't open. I think it has something to do with the .xinitrc file that I created in my home dir. The file contains one line exec startkde
As a result I am getting the following message in console: XFree86 Version 4.4.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) [DRI] screen 0 installation complete Screen 0 added: 1280x800 @ (0,0) Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list! bash: no job control in this shell /Users/ASM/.xinitrc: line 1: exec: startkde: not found en:el:de:ja:fr:it:nl:sv:nb:da:fi:pt:zh-Hans:zh-Hant:ko:ru The application 'gimp-2.6' lost its connection to the display :0.0; most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application. Quitting XDarwin... Debugger() was called! Debugger() was called! I'm not really clear as what to do next. Any help would be great. I'm running X11 on a MacOSX 10.4.11. I would like for Gimp to open as per usual without having to open KDE... |

You need to either remove startkde from ~/.xinitrc or change it to use the full path to startkde.

How do I change it to use the full path to startkde?
Sorry, I'm really new to all this... As per the first solution, how can I run KDE without startkde in the .xinitrc file? thx in advance |

Where did you install KDE?
It should be <install path>/bin/startkde

Not sure where I installed KDE...I believe it's cd: sw/bin
Is there anyway to check this? With exec sw/bin/startkde Gimp opens in KDE, but a new KDM opens with the heading X11. |
