Since I've started run kWin like this:
Code: Select all
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 kwin --replace

I experience unexpected crashes of X server.
I paste system logs in hope someone helps me.

/var/log/syslog
Code: Select all
31/12/2010 20:43:10   localhost   kdm[801]   X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly

Xorg.0.log
http://paste.kde.org/1553/

thanks in advance!

Similar problem here - Kubuntu 10.10. Moving mouse arrow causes random crashes of X. Very annoying when taking lecture notes. Hardware ASUS Eee 1005HA.

It seems that
Code: Select all
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 kwin --replace

is not guilty. Rather it is ATI driver (I guess).

I installed Radeon driver from 'X updates' ppa:
1:6.13.2-0ubuntu1~xup1
and crashes are still present. The same version of the driver is supposed to come to Kubuntu Natty so it's highly probable that upcoming Kubuntu will be affected too.

Have you tried disabling Desktop Effects?
