Hi to all.
After trying to plug an external monitor to my laptop for the first time in Kubuntu, I experienced a problem with the KWin panel. In fact, after unplugging it, the panel goes beside each window and I am not able to take it back to a "normal" situation where "normal" means that I can see both the panel and any other window at the same time. Please note that hiding the panel does not represent a solution for me. At the moment, the best I can do is making the panel always visible but as a side efect I get that the bottom of the other windows is not visible while my aim is to get back as when you get the default panel. As a consequence, it is very annoying for me for example when managing Thunderbird attachments since all the "save" buttons are placed at the bottom of the window. PD: I just found a workaround... deleting the panel, loosing all the options and adding a new default panel. Was it the only way to do that? |

Sorry.
The workaround did not work. I cannot still see both the panel and the other windows at the same time. In other words, I'd like to see back the "MS Windows style" do dispose panel and windows. Do you knowwhat I mean? Regards. |

If you edit the Panel settings > More Options, is Visibility set correctly to "Always visible"?

From the description i'd say the panel fails to strut, possibly because of the screen geometry change not being catched by plasma-desktop, thus not updating struts, leading to invalid ("inside screen") struts which are simply ignored.
Does moving (to another screen border, releasing and eventually moving it back) or resizing (towards the screen center, ie. make it higher or slimmer) the panel fix the situation? ------ If not: ------------- Please explain the exact setup of: a) your screens (do you use two screens at the same time or is one just replaced, what are the resolutions. For multiscreen please describe the screen layout, see "kcmshell4 randr" <- that's a command for krunner or konsole) b) the panel (it's position and supposed geometry, especially in relation to the screens) Ideally make a screenshot and post it at imgur or wherever. Next open konsole and run "xprop | grep -iA3 strut" then click the panel, then "xwininfo" and click the panel again - post the outputs. |
