Hi!
Mgraesslin told me to post my problem here. After the update to Kubuntu Precise Pangolin I had a high CPU usage so that my PC was unusable. After googling I deactivated the minimizing animations and als activated VSync, but this does not help. Only if I deactivate all effects by Control+Shift+F12 I can use KDE again. glxgears are not rotating fluently. After some hints from mgraesslin I put the debug information of glxinfo onto the forum and he thinks that the last line is interesting, but cannot help me. Any hints? ( Original german post: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/kwin- ... ardtipps-/ ) gregor@poppei:~$ kwin --replace & [1] 3227 gregor@poppei:~$ QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
Thanks! Sysconfig: NVIDIA Driver Version: 295.40; graphics card: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (GPU 0); Linux 3.2.0-24-generic; KDE 4.8.2 |

"kcmshell4 kwincompositing", 3rd tab, disable opengl 2.0 shaders (cause is likely lanczos or blurring and rather theoretic fragment shaders in this "gpu"
(it has ONE vertex and holymoly TWO fragment shaders...) |

Don't use 295.40 Nvidia driver. It's buggy and pending a fix release. I held the drivers from updating to it on Debian testing.
On the subj, see: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=78532 http://techpatterns.com/forums/about2047.html http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthr ... ost2546510 http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n ... px=MTA4ODc In general, always wait for some time after the new Nvidia driver is released before updating to it. Watch out for regressions mentioned around. And if it's buggy - find ways to avoid using the buggy version until it's fixed. It wasn't smart for Ubuntu to ship a buggy driver by default. I'm more familiar with managing Nvidia driver on Debian. You can consult Ubuntu community what's the best way to downgrade the driver to 295.33 until the fixed version will come out. |

Thanks fpr your replies! I tried to downgrade but wasn't successfull. Maybe I did something wrong, I haven't discovered it yet in detail. (http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/post/4332607/) Meanwhile I switched to XRender until new driver will be shipped. This way I am able to use active corners at least. Thanks! |
