Personal Settings tells me: XComposite and XDamage are not available.
Played around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf as recommended in deeper space.

opensuse10.3 Radeon 9600.
kwin --replace doesn't do anything.
modinfo fglrx says that fglrx.ko is loaded.
a piece of xorg.0.log:
LoadModule: "fglrx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules//drivers/fglrx_drv.so
(II) Module fglrx: vendor="FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc."
compiled for 7.1.0, module version = 8.52.3
Module class: X.Org Video Driver

Now

Section "Extensions"
Option "Damage" "true"
Option "Composite" "true"
EndSection

did it. Funny.
BTW: The effects like shadows, translucency etc. I have now... in KDE3.5 but not in 4.1.2 :)
When I clicked on "Lock and declare thread as solved" Konqueror (4.1.2) froze.

i too have the xeffects enabled in kde4 works in kde3.5.10 also
floating transparency is possible in kde3.5 konsole also.
i have enabled Xrender instead of opengl in advanced desktop effects window.
i have enabled only shadow and translucency dim windows not active and few of them.
all effects enabled it gives black screen.
then i had to delete .kde4 in my home folder.
may be it needs lots of memory and cpu power to have all of them working.

Since I've got this working I notice a longer delay when I switch from one desktop to the other.
Any ideas?
Are there advantages Xrender to OpenGL?
