Let's see. I'm having the same stupid problem since 4.8. It's all due to kde-workspace-appmenu, nothing about broken packages or those you said before. I can't figure out how to fix this without uninstalling oxygen-appmenu (don't tell me about synaptic, apt-get or those things, I'm using gentoo and installed kde4-workspace and patched for appmenu from kde-look.org). I repeat, all I know for now is that this crash is related to kde-workspace-appmenu. Don't know if this is a bug of that (don't see any comment about that in kde-look.org page), but if anyone has a clue about how to fix it, would be very appreciated.

sfranzini wrote:Hey Greatperson, are you using kde 4.9 from kubuntu backports ppa? If yes, go to synaptic and delete libkdecoration4 4.8.x.
Thats goes delete qtcurve too, but is the price. The segfault is caused by this library not compatible with kde 4.9, and dependency of qtcurve
Excuse my poor english.

That's because when you uninstall libkdecoration, Smaragd (for emerald themes) also is uninstalled. Smaragd is causing the problem as is commented in the bug link given by "acidrums4"
Anyway it is better to build and install the new version of QtCurve that solves problems for KDE 4.9:
