According to the API doc, KWin:::Client.caption is a read-only property, and

workspace.activeClient.caption = "Kwin scripts rocks !!!"

fails silently.

But Kwin itself can change it (adding e.g. "{Meta+K}" at the end of the windows which have hotkeys defined for them). Could this be exposed via the API ? I'm trying to get a similar hotkey visual clue behavior and can't without it.

feature exists in 4.10 - but not like this (wouldn't work anyway because the client can/may/will update the caption constantly and/or at any time)

see /usr/share/apps/kwin/stripTitle.js and activate "kwriteconfig --file kwinrc --group Windows --key CondensedTitle true" to have it invoked.
