I'm a Compiz user seriously considering switching to kwin there are just two things bothering me. I was hoping someone experience can help me since I cannot find answers in the documentation.
Switching desktops with the mouse Does anyone have any suggestion on how I do this? If I have a full screen application and cannot see the desktop, how do I switch to desktop left or desktop right using only the mouse? With Compiz I can click the screen edges to do this. Fall apart effect Is there any way to specify which windows are subject to the fall apart effect? There are some windows like menus that trigger the effect and other windows that are exempt. Is there a way for the user to choose this the way Compiz allows? Thank you for your time |

switching: cashew (upper right corner) -> default desktop settings -> mouse actions -> add action -> move wheel over "input here" button (should now be vertical scroll) -> change "application launcher" to "switch desktop". Also see systemsettings -> workspace behavior -> virtual desktops -> switching -> desktop navigation wraps around
effects, you can block windows from being effected by composting (if this meets your needs): systemsettings -> window behavior -> window rules -> select which windows types -> appearance and fixes -> block composting -> force |

That sounds like what I wanted thankyou. For the desktop switching issue, I was more concerned with full screen applications where the desktop nor the cashew are visible. Can I switch destops without minimizing the application? |

you can use screen edge actions for this, for example the grid option would display all desktops and you would then pick one
systemsettings -> workspace behavior -> screen edges you can also use keyboard shortcuts |

short summary: both things are not possible in the way like it's possible in Compiz. The suggested way for fall-apart is a solution for a different problem Don't use it for that.
Fall-Apart could be adjusted but nobody was interested in writing that code. The Cube thingy will not be possible before Qt5 and/or Wayland. |
