I am running a 7770 not a 4890 as indicated in my sig. Since installing the proprietary driver using jockey, I am not longer able to see thumb nails when I hover over Icons on the Icon Only task Manager. This worked fine with the xorg drivers, and no settings have been changed. Any idea how to correct this?

what version of KWin are you using? In case you have at least 4.9, please run:

qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin supportInformation

I see the taskbar thumbs is turned off here but yet the effect is turned on, and I get no error message about it.

please try starting KWin with KWIN_DIRECT_GL=1, that is from a console:
KWIN_DIRECT_GL=1 kwin --replace &

From a console inside KDE or do I need to switch out to something like TTY1? I tried in KDE and everything flashed for a moment but no changes regarding the thumbnails.

Code: Select all
xplorer4x4@xplorer4x4-MS-7673:~$ KWIN_DIRECT_GL=1 kwin --replace &

from a console inside KDE is fine. Could you do it again and run the qdbus command again when using that version?

Stupid question: is there an empty area that looks like the thumbnail should be in it or is there just a small popup with the caption?
Do you use thumbnails in alt+tab? Do they show up?

Oh, and in case the answer is "small popup" and "yes" - keep kwin compositing and running, then call
kquitapp plasma-desktop; sleep 5; plasma-desktop
(from konsole in KDE)

I see no reason this is a stupid question. It is just the caption. No I do not. I don;t even use ALT+TAB anyways but it shows me sliding windows. Can;t think of the proper description for it atm.

The answer has always been small pop up. I always got a text pop up but not a thumbnail(since switching to the AMD driver).

Here is the output from that command:
http://pastebin.com/aaEUKcSk

Output from compositing only added one line:
QMetaProperty::read: Unable to handle unregistered datatype 'WindowOperation' for property 'KWin::Options::operationTitlebarDblClick'

Putting the plasma-desktop to sleep worked though! I just hope this will stick after a reboot.

No. Won't stick, sorry.
Plasma doesn't notice that there's a compositor, fro vast details on the problem (originally a Qt bug) see https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/107983/

Odd I swore it worked last time I rebooted! Oh well thanks for the help! Is there any way to run this in a screen or something until a fix is pushed?
