Hi all,
I am experiencing very annoying window management on kde 4.9.5 Some windows (skype) opens out of the screen when I use dual display. Previously I used to workaround it by selecting the window in the panel , right click -> more actions > move The move cursor would jump to the edge to the edge of the screen and somehow I would be able to move the target window in the screen range. Now it's impossible so I decided to use keyboard setting and use keys shortcut to move the window having focus. I then found the Move window shortcuts in Global keyboard shortcuts. The default to move window left for example are Meta+Shift+ H (vi style). Problem is the shortcuts don't work either! I tried reassigning the shortcuts for other combinations and there is nothing I can do. My dualdisplay setup: The Lost window ( visible on the top left): I would appreciate if somebody could give me a hint on whatever I am missing something or just kwin is just doing it terribly wrong. You probably picked the ambiguous shortcut from the zoom effect (which we hopefully removed/renamed for 4.10)
Since recent XOrg versions it's no longer possible to move the window outside partial screen geometries, that's why this trick doesn't work anymore. Now to the root of the issue: "some" windows will call for an explicit position when initially mapped on screen and that is by default honored. Because of your screen layout, if the window picks a "dumb" +64+64 positon it will end outside the screen (i'll now have a look whether we allow windows to wet themselves this way You can work around this running "kcmshell4 kwinrules" and create a new window rule for the window (skype, seems to be?) and set "ignore requested geometry" to "force" and "yes". If this does not help you can in addition "initially apply" or "force" or "remember" it's position. "force" the latter will work for sure, but you won't be able to move the window anymore. The other settings depend on whether the window tries to move itself somewhere else *after* it was shown. In 4.10 you'll additionally be able to select a particular screen for the window. |
