KDE 4.8.5 RELEASE 2 openSUSE 12.2
I have also posted in the openSUSE forums about these issues. http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/484068-frozen-bubble-issues.html#post2533896 Issue # 1] A game [Frozen Bubble] opens in full screen mode only. I would like it to open in a resizable window instead of Fullscreen mode. I have tried to do this through "Advanced > Special Application Settings" [by right clicking top left of "Frozen Bubble" window] and I am able to resize window, but the game itself stays the same size. Would this be a programming thing? Or is there some other way to fix this to work the way I want? Issue # 2] When ever I open FROZEN BUBBLE, it opens in FULL screen mode and I press ESCape to get out of FULLSCREEN MODE, then all of the windows that I have open before get shrunk to a smaller size and I have to resize them all. Its a bit of a pain to have to do this all the time , so I am wondering how I can change this. Thank You |

With regards to issue #1: Have you checked the game settings to see if it is applying anything here which may be causing this?
Further, is Frozen Bubble a KDE game, or a 3rd party game?

Three are HUNDREDS of frozen bubble implementations (afaik no KDE one, though - what a shame - in python, java, c, perl, you name it. Iirc even a web version.
Some only work windowed, some only fullscreen, some not at all and some reasonably To get to your point: no, that's sth. the frozen-bubble logic will have to provide. It will likely just operate on a fixed size logic with prescaled images or so. There's nothing the WM could do about that at all. The second aspect is https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80265 - should be resolved in 4.9 (4.10 is the current version) |

@bcooksley ty for replying
Frozen Bubble is a 3rd party game http://www.frozen-bubble.org They carry a note on their website that help is normally to be sought at the OS forums. I have been in contact with the creator[?] [since this posting]and he informs me that :
So, since I don't know about things like that [programming], I guess Issue #1 is not SOLVABLE for me. However, I would still like a solution [if possible] to Issue #2. Windows tiling[?] when I don't want them to. Thanks
There is not much to 'Settings' , other than turning off sound and toggling to downsize from FULLSCREEN mode [which just takes me to a much smaller unadjustable window] or level jumping. It has been suggested that I try a CLI , using the
command and altho this does change the 1 to 0 in the rc text file, it does not change the actual screen from FULLSCREEN mode. Reference - rc text file:

Solution to issue #2 is -as mentioned- to update to 4.9
OOC - what exactly is your issue about fullscreen/not fullscreen in frozen bubble. The website has the perl version (probably the original) which afair operates on a fixed size (and the fullscreen mode adjusts your screen size to that, thus the shrunk windows afterwards - they were restricted to the available size) |

ty luebking for reply. We must have hit the SUBMIT button at the same time. Yes, I was just informed by the creator[?] [@ frozenbubble website] that it would not be easy to change the size. see above post
My OS [openSUSE 12.2] reports KDE version as 4.8.5 release 2, is that their version? For that particular OS? I know that KDE is made for many OSes. thanks |
|
You will afair require KDE 4.9.0 or above, 4.8.5 doesn't contain that commit catching the particular gaming situation - sorry.
(fyi, what you experience as bug was seen as feature - it prevents windows from exceeding screen bounds, ie. the user from loosing access to the titlebar) |

yes, it appears nothing can be done re: Issue #1. Maybe in time someone will change it. However, I have upgraded to KDE 4.9.5 and did an adjustment on Window Behaviour>Special Application Setting to keep the [the other program] window at a certain area all the time and it works much more to my liking. Now when I exit the game, my other windows are all just the way I left them. [Issue #2] Thanks for your time, help and suggestions. |
