Questions concerning Aurorae theme

Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:13 pm
Hi,
I try to build an Aurorae theme that looks like my preferred window decoration theme Tab Strip which was removed in KDE 4.9. So far a lot of things work great, but I ran into some problems:
  • How do I change the menu button? The documentation http://techbase.kde.org/User:Mgraesslin/Aurorae does not mentation the menu and creating menu.svgz does hot have an effect. The AuroreaDesigner has an entry called Menu in the compatibility check, so I assume it is possible and the documentation is lacking it?
  • When I maximize, the top decoration changes it color. I didn't specify that and I don't know how to change that. I looked how other themes are handling it but I cannot find a difference.
  • Is there a possibility to use the system color for the color of the active and inactive title bar? Or is this for non-Aurorae themes only?

I don't think it's supported

It uses either the dedicated maximized version of the decoration or the center element.

No that's not supported.

As an alternative: there are QML bindings available which would allow more fine grained control. Though they are not documented.

Thanks for your answers.

Menu in Aurorea
Is it worth to open a feature request for it? I would like to see that supported from Aurorae.

Maximized title bar
Ah thanks for the hint. Actually that's the same as the documentation, but I got confused. I though the center will be used as the center element. Now it works, thank you. I won't start with QML bindings, first I finish my current version which becomes rather nice. Aurorae is great.

Concerning the AureraeDesiger, what is the best place to report bugs or feature requests? I had a hard time to figure out all the functions. After I found out that I could add the functions as buttons that are not present as menu entries, its much more useful. Still, reloading does not reload the images, just changes in the rc file.

Let me first check whether it's really not supported.

I don't think I will work on AuroraeDesigner any more. It was more like a by-product from rewriting Aurorae. But I will not add any new features for the theme based Aurorae - the future is QML and Plasmate.

Thanks for your help. I was able to create my Aurarea-based Re-Tabstrip, cf. http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Re ... ent=158445

Never mind, it works for me with the program icon, too.

Ok, I understand that. Hopefully I don't have to do all the work again in two or three KDE releases.

reviving an old thread....

I wonder if there are any other people looking forward to an improved version of Aurorae for Plasma 5?

More flexibility, and easier to produce themes that are innovative.
