Hello,
I have two issues which came with KDE 4.10.x. They are mainly related to window decoration Plastik, although they appear with other decorations too, but it's not so significant. The first issue is related to the new feature: borders of windows obtaining/loosing focus are not repainted immediately but smoothly and slowly. I use Lazarus+Qt for development which uses stand-alone windows (non-docked design). I usually have more than 20 overlaying windows on one virtual desktop. Sometimes, mostly when I open new project or when I build project with many windows, the windows start to steal focus each other in endless loop. Desktop is not responsive anymore with extremal CPU load. It is impossible to switch to another virtual desktop with keys (Ctrl+Fn) and it is very difficult to do so with mouse because the stealing focus windows immediately switch focus back to their virtual desktop. This never happened with previous verions of KDE4 (from KDE 4.9 back to KDE4 in Kubuntu 9.04, which was my first KDE4 distro). The second issue is minor: window title caption is not properly vertically aligned. It is most significant in maximized windows but on normal windows too. I paste here two screenshots. The first show high CPU load when windows steal their focuses. Both images show bad vertical align of window title caption. http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/1497/kde4plasticcut.png http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/8628/kde4plastictitle.png I tried to find checkbox to disable this new smooth focusing. Is there a way how to switch it off (configuration file) ? Thanks for your help. EDIT: I forgot to mention: I experienced this on Chakra Linux + KDE 4.10.(0-4) and on openSuSE 12.3 + KDE 4.10.2 |

The vertical alignment will be fixed in 4.11.
The animation can be disabled by modifying the code. Edit file: /usr/share/apps/kwin/decorations/kwin4_decoration_qml_plastik/contens/ui/main.qml and remove the line: root.animationDuration = 150; Note: with each update this will be overwritten again. |

Thanks.
I removed the line but it seems it has no effect here. The color border of windows is still repainted slowly/smoothly. Is it overridden somewhere or is there anything else in sources I should edit? I will continue testing now to see if the endless loop state can become again. |

did you restart KWin after changing the file?

I think it is better now. I tested with Chakra (KDE 4.10.4) and with openSUSE (KDE 4.10.0) . Although there is still one thing: switching to virtual desktop with many (~14) windows makes about 2 second delay before the relevant window is focused. But this is maybe related to open-source AMD video driver "radeon" (because I didn't experienced this with pre-KDE 4.10 versions where I mostly used Catalyst).
