Hello to all. I have a glorious Toshiba Tecra S2 with Nvidia GeForce Go 6600 (rev a2). I plaything with different operating systems GNU / Linux installed, with various desktop environment. Among these CLD Calculate Linux (KDE desktop of course) that I updated recently. Unfortunately I am experiencing problems with the graphics, as I visualize parts of the desk only when the mouse passes over them. Some time ago I tested Kubuntu 13.10 via live USB, having the same result. I have to say that this situation does not occur with Open Suse 13.1 KDE, SolidK, nor with other operating systems that have other DE different from KDE. Can anyone help me?

does it help if you turn off compositing alt+shift+f12
what is the result of running the following in Konsole
as I'm guessing it's a Kwin issue I'm moving it to that forum |

Is the Nvidia card the sole graphics card in the system, or does this laptop use Hybrid graphics technology?
If it does, are you using anything to enable this functionality, such as Bumblebee?

Thanks, it works! How? I don't know.
I did alt+shift+f12 without apparent result. I wrote kwin --replace with result as following
I wrote Bumblebee on konsole with this reply "Command not found". I rebooted PC and Calculate Linux seems to be ok. Thanks again! |

If this remain/returns as problem and unless you've any moral concerns or are interested in helping to improve nouveau, try installing the binary nvidia-304xx driver.
Read first about how to do that, do not try to use nouveau and nvidia at the same time! Your distro should handle that for you, but do not just rely on that. You might loose access to the graphical user interface. |

I was having the identical problem with an Nvidia GeForce 6600 in an OpenSUSE 13.1 desktop system (the integrated graphics are disabled) when using the nouveau driver.
In my case alt+shift+f12 was an instant fix to the problem. Any idea how to find out what's wrong that with the driver/hardware that is causing compositing to mess up the screen? FWIW - I installed from the 64-bit KDE live boot DVD. Thanks! |

The nouveau driver is still very much a work in progress and has much lower performance compared to the Nvidia proprietary driver - it is likely bugs in the nouveau driver are the cause of these issues.
