Hello. I'm using full KDE4 (Plasma, KWin) on Ubuntu.
I want that when I press Alt key in some application, focus wouldn't switch to menubar. How to do this? |

you mean Alt+first_letter_of_menu_bar_item
is the issue with KDE or non-KDE apps ? specifically which apps ? |

In the moment TeXstudio --- Qt (4.8.4) application. |

it doesn't for me, alt by itself does nothing - not sure if this is the correct behavior or not
you can look in the options menu -> shortcuts to try and change this, but I didn't see it might be an app specific setting and if so best asked on their forum |

Controlled by QStyle::SH_MenuBar_AltKeyNavigation
-> What GUI style? (oxygen, qtcurve, skulpture, bespin, plastique, gtk+ ....) |

Widget style: Oxygen, Icons: Oxygen, GTK2 theme and GTK3 theme of GTK applications: oxygen-gtk |
|
Oxygen doesn't do this here.
Can you confirm the behavior for any other KDE/Qt client than TeXstudio? (kwrite, qupzilla, ...) |

Hi,
I have (I think) the same problem with KDE 4.12.5, running Fedora 20. The shortcuts which contain ALT does not work as ALT key is not caught by application but is caught by KDE and the menu toolbar is shown each time. Is there some possibility to change the ALT for not being used for menubar being activated? Thanks in advance Ondrej |

I have the same problem. No solution yet?

What problem? The problem hasn't even been sufficiently described yet.
The original question seemed about a GUI style specific behavior, then "chalda" put the focus on some external menu. At least the topscreen menu is hinted when pressing alt, but doesn't get the focus. Shortcuts containing remain working as expected. Thus I asked back on what kind of external menu in particular, but got no response. Also the external menus are override redirect windows, so kwin isn't even the relevant component here. -> Please *precisely* describe: - what you try to do - what you expect - what happens instead |

I'm on the QtCreator editor (same thing happens with kate and most qt apps).
what happens: . I press ALT and release it. The cursor stops blinking. The focus is now on the QtCreator menubar. what I want: I press ALT and release it. I'm still on the editor and I can continue to write. |
|
The major question is still: WHERE is that menubar?
Inside the very same window? (ie. the "normal" case, like eg. on windows) On top of the screen? Does it show up in the titlebar? Does it show up dynamically when pressing Alt? |

I have done it as follows. I switched Alt and Meta keys by means of Keyboard settings. Then I changed all Alt+... keyboard shortcuts to Meta+... ones and vice versa. The last step is rather tedious, but the result is perfect.

Right click on the "application launcher"
-> configure launcher -> keyboard shortcuts -> then you put the combination with the "META + m" key (you can change "m" for the key you want) -> apply. and the launcher already works with both "META + m" and only the "META" key ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Clic derecho en el "lanzador de aplicaciones" -> configurar lanzador -> accesos rápidos del teclado -> entonces pones la combienación con la tecla "META+m" (puedes cambiar "m" por la tecla que quieras) -> aplicar. y ya funciona el lanzador tanto con "META+m" como sólo la tecla "META" |
