Plain Task Switcher is useless with tiled windows

You can disable shadow/glow in "oxygen-settings" as well as chaning colors.
You can also use one of the plenty aurorae/dekorator/smaragd themes or qtcurve/skulpture/bespin to gain a specific look.

yes, i use localised version of KDE so I'm not sure how those options are called in the english ;-)

I strongly recommend taking a look into other shortcuts of kwin. The selection of avaible actions is quite impressive.

Also Fvwm2 was configurable in every detail and I switched away for something that "just worked". But here I'm getting off topic, don't follow me :)
