Finding the PID of a window

Fri Jan 17, 2014 10:51 pm
Hello,
I have a dialog repeatedly popping up every 10 seconds. The window title is simply 'authentication dialog', and I am struggling to find the proces responsible for it.
Is there a way I can get a list of PID for visible dialogs, and possibly the hierarchy of windows parents?

Using KDE 4.10.5 release 1 with QT 4.8.4

Thanks.

"xprop" & "xwininfo" - they allow you to click a window with the mouse and print much information into konsole
You're in particular looking for "xprop _NET_WM_PID", but notice that the field is not mandatory.
"xwininfo -tree" will print all child windows for a given window.

Please provide a screenshot of the dialog, KDE only has a few types of password window so it should be fairly easy to identify the source.
