Switching sessions

Sun Jan 19, 2014 10:22 am
Hi,

I am not sure if this belongs with kWin. I am struggling to switch sessions between two users.

What works
1. I can switch out of a session to a new login prompt (I am using lightdm, and perhaps this is the start of the problems)
2. I can log into the new session as a new user

What does not work
1. If I try to log out the second session, KDE wants to shutdown and I don't get an option to logout. (In my first session I get an option to logout and it works fine).

What sometimes works
1. From the second session I can switch back to the first session but sometimes I endup in with a blank screen. Mouse works but it appears if the window manager does not.

Is this a problem on my setup and can someone tell me where to start looking.

Using KDE 4.11.5 running on Ubuntu with the 3.11.0-15 kernel.

reg. the blank screen issue
a) try to suspend compositing (Shift+Alt+F12) in the first session before you switch - the HW/driver may stumble on the concurrent contexts on different VTs
b) otherwise: "kcmshell4 screensaver", set "Screen locker type" to "Simple locker". Still an issue?

Hi lubeking

Thanks for the post.

a) Tried Shift-Alt-F12 - thanks much better, able to switch back and forth without a problem.
b) Screen save is set to Simple Locker - still a problem

If you login to the "new user" first, are they now able to logout?
