Hiyas,
I am having a problem recently where I can't seem to unlock my screen after it is inactive for a while. The prompt to enter my password does not appear and I have to go to a terminal and restart KDM to get be able to login. How do I troubleshoot this issue? Are there any workarounds/fixes available? It just started happening in the past week or so. PS. I am running KDE 4.12.2 on Kubuntu 12.04. Thanks Keith |

Actually... I don't think so. If you follow that bug on to the one it reportedly duplicates (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314663), there are specific steps to reproduce the problem. I was able to complete those steps w/o issue.
I did some more experimenting and think I have isolated the problem I am experiencing: In KDE, there are two settings to lock the screen. The first is: System Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Screen Locker And is the focus of the bug you mention. The 2nd setting is under power management: System Settings -> Power Management -> Energy Saving If I enable the Suspend Session engery saving setting with either Lock Screen or Sleep without enabling the "Require password after:" setting in the Screen Locker settings, then I get locked out when the suspend period goes into effect. I get the same screen as I would if I just did the "Require password after:" only without the prompt to enter a password. If I enable the "Require password after:", it seems to let me log back in. I am guessing this is a bug? Thanks. Keith |

It's also reproducible if you set the action to "Lock Screen" instead of "Sleep" in the power management settings.

FYI, this should be fixed in kde-workspace 4.11.9 now, which is to be released next Tuesday together with KDE SC 4.12.5.
