hey i just bought a new computer and i got kubuntu 12.04, and i want to play dota 2 on steam. But is really slow, so i went on system settings and to desktop settings. well i was using xrender but its not good at all so i am trying to change to opengl witch is much better, after i have click apply this coming up the following desktop effects could not be activated .cover switch

please heeeeelp i cant play any games whit out opengl and it costed me much. please help me any one

Can you please provide more details about your computer? If it has a ATI / Nvidia graphics card you may need to install the proprietary drivers to ensure the correct level of performance is obtained.

Please notice that OpenGL compositing is NOT required in order to play OpenGL games (in fact, the intel driver won't like that too much, rather suspend the compositor to play - press Shift+Alt+F12 to toggle it)

However, in order to reasonably play an OpenGL game, you first need GL hardware acceleration.
This should be no problem on intel chips, but apparently is in your case.

For the beginning, please post the outputs of "glxinfo" and "lspci" for inspection.

Your system should already have 3D support then - as the Intel drivers are included with all Linux distributions.
When posting the glxinfo output, please use [code] tags to make it easier to view.

That's the software renderer - you do not *want* to use OpenGL compositing with that.

If you're not running KDE in a virtual machine, you either lack some "intel-dri" package or there's another problem (you forgot to post the output of "lspci", I want to see whether this is an "Optimus" system ie. intel+nvidia)

That looks fine - doesn't seem to an Optimus system.
