After starting plasma-next I get a kwallet dialog. Sometimes I can enter my password and it crashes with another dialog (perhaps), but the last two or three attempts to cancel leads to a reproducible crash. Here is my journalctl of the last messages, perhaps we can figure out what happens.
I would write a bug report if I'd know the problem.

Kwin crashes, I guess. I get a completely dark screen (my theme is Breeze dark) with flicker on mouse move. Flicker means I see a dark grey panel on dark background. But I'm able to (blindly) click and press enter to close the session. I cannot say if its possible to handle the dialog.

Rather not "crash", but probably "trouble"
Do you get a usable interface by suspending the compositor? (Shift+Alt+F12) |

Yes, I can switch to any terminal (tty2 for instance). That's how I get the output from systemd.
Edit: I changed the topic from "Crash by dialog" to "Problem with dialog". |

"SHIFT+Alt+F12" - not ctrl+Atl+F*
The question is, whether this is a problem in the compositor, X11 or plasma-shell. Shift+Alt+F12 suspends the compositor, so we'll either know that it's the culprit or can take it out of the calculation =) |

Oups, tty12...
Yes, with Shift+Alt+F12 I can resurrect KWin. I suspect that the error dialog of owncloud about the missing task bar interferes with something. |

Ok, sounds like a compositor issue.
Does it still work after resuming the compositor? (SHIFT+Alt+F12 again) In case, please paste the output of "qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation" somewhere. If not, let's try with the "glxinfo" printout first. |

I works after resuming the compositor.

*cough*
Please post it in "code" tags here (it's some more text) |

qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin supportInformation (right now its running)

The compositor is not resumed (or was suspended again) |

This time I had no crash (so its not really reproducible or was depending on wlan setting). And now the log has information on the compositor:
Edit: You are right, the compositor is not restarted by Shift+At+F12. Double checked by accident right now.

kwin4 effects... I wonder what I can remove safely. There are some packages with version number 4.14 (but probably not so easy to remove because of the dependency to kde, kde-meta, kdebase etc,). Anyway, that's another topic.

This is fishing in the dark on possible caveats:
--------------------------------------------------------------- > Current Plugin: aurorae Try the oxygen decoration (or the native breeze one if available) > X server version: 1.16.1 Does your distro enable glamor? "grep -i glamor /var/log/Xorg.0.log" > OpenGL version: 3.0 "kcmshell5 kwincompositing", try GL 2.0 (eventually reboot afterwards) > blur > contrast Try to disable both. |
