Hello. Yesterday I installed Kubuntu 14.10 and it was working fine. After system update the windows of the applicationas (eg Fire Fox) open at top left corner of screen covering also the task bar (as I moved it to the top). I cannot move, resize or access the tool bar of any application window. Cannot access the task bar either. I did some research but I am new to KDE and did not manage to sort out the problem.
I need some assistance. Thanks alot for your attention and help. Robert |

Sounds like kwin crashed and failed to auto-restart (or present you a "pick another WM" dialog)
Did you reboot after the update? |

Thank you for your reply I booted various times Is there a way to reset kwin which holds after reboot ? Thanks |

you should get some "kwin just crashed" dialog - there may have been a broken update process (ie. some files where only partially updated and are now mere junk)
0. log into KDE (w/ no window management) 1. move to VT1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1) 2. log in 3. run export DISPLAY=:0 kwin --replace & watch the output for errors (like "kwin: no such process") etc. In very doubt: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade |

Thanks |

just log i - that all windows appear at 0,0 and you cannot move/resize them means "there is no windowmanager"
