Hi !

I wish it would be possible to center all new windows by default.

For example when you open the kde5-nm-connection-editor, it will be opened on the top left border of the screen,
which is not very ergonomic.

I would like to define a rule to centered all windows by default,
but when i create and apply it, it isn't saved by Kwin.

=> How could I center a window at opening ?
=> Should Kwin center all windows by default ? (this question should probably be posted under the VDG forum)

Thanks !

"kcmshell5 kwinoptions" / advanced / placement / "centered"
You can also control this on a per-client basis in "kcmshell5 kwinrules"

Center opening *all* windows would cause several gliltches, for
a) dialogs would no longer necessarily show up above their parents
b) if you open 10 windows in a row, they'd all overlay.

The "smart" policy tries to distribute all windows across the desktop with minimum overlay (and starting with the center position would be a great way to kill that strategy - you immediately run out of large free chunks)

Hi luebking !

Thank your for your answer !

"kcmshell5 kwinoptions" / advanced / placement / "centered"

It worked ! ;D

a) dialogs would no longer necessarily show up above their parents
b) if you open 10 windows in a row, they'd all overlay.

Yes, this an issue, but I never had a lot of dialog opened and overlapped because of this.

Thanks !
