i see that there is a process running but I am not sure if it is display1 or not. I am using ctl+alt+ F2. for the console (ctl+alt+f1 is still the scrolling screen) sorry for the screen shot but here is the output http://s1056.photobucket.com/user/everydaydiesel2/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151021_100757_zpsb2aaptni.jpg.html one other difference is that with centos i was using the nvidia drivers but with this installation i installed nvidia with pacman -S nvidia |

I finally figured this out and while it is not the best solution it does work.
First I removed pacman -R nvidia I added "blacklist nouveau" to /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau_blacklist.conf rebooted then used wget to download the lastest nvidia drivers from their website chmod +x FILENAME then installed it Now it works like a charm. Thanks for all your help! |

Ahh, you allow multiple framebuffer access. Not good. Also see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR ... ramebuffer |

Should I disable the framebuffer. I am not sure how else to get this machine working. What is wrong with having multiple frambuffer access? |

The nvidia driver doesn't support kms and "prefers" exclusive access on the framebuffer (notably since the archlinux package already contains a modprobe role to blacklist nouveau)
Because your VT1 screenshots looked like VGA, I had assumed you had configured that anyway. (If you had, it'll rather be simply a bug in the driver - but arch has 355.11, being the latest driver version unless you chose a beta) Not allowing nouveau to be loaded is mandatory, getting rid of grub caused framebuffer changes is a good idea. |
