Yes.
You can put your custom kscreensaverrc or kscreenlockerrc (depending on the Plasma version you use) that disables it to one of the system's config locations to change the defaults.
Run "kde4-config --path config" or "kf5-config --path config" (again, depending on your Plasma version) to find out which folders are searched.

Or create one in /etc/skel/, that directory is copied to the user's home directory when a new user is created.

Or at least specify whether you are using KDE4's Plasma or Plasma5, the openSUSE version alone would help already.

I already told you in general how to do it.

But there were significant changes between KDE4 and Plasma5 in this regards, that's why it's vitally important to know what version you are using.

In KDE4 screen *locking* was not even enabled by default, so I still have to ask what exactly you want to disable.
Can you be a bit more verbose, please?

The long story:
Yes, we are openSUSE13.2 and KDE4
We finally managed to get some new machines
These have a sleep button
When the students press it most of the time the machine goes to sleep ( surprisingly ) but occasionally it just locks the screen
If it sleeps it restarts on the lock screen
However you now can't enter anything in the keyboard to unlock the session

Since we've wanted to disable locking for a long time and never really got around to it
I figured that I could kill two birds with one stone just disabling screen locking.

Ok, that would be the powersaving settings then, i.e. the "lock screen on resume" option in systemsettings (Configure Desktop in openSUSE)->Power Management->Advanced Options.
Not directly related to the screen saver (in KDE4 at least).

In that case, you'd want:

configLockScreen=false

in powerdevilrc.

As you are using openSUSE 13.2 with KDE4, create a file /etc/kde4/share/config/powerdevilrc with this content (without that space in front of "[General]", that seems to be a bug in this forum... ), and it should be the default for all users to *not* lock the screen when resuming after suspend/hibernate.

But please note that this is only the default, existing user accounts will not be affected if they changed those settings manually.

I do suspect it's KDE as I have the same hardware but with Leap
on my machine and that works OK. Anyway, many thanks, that
