I'd like to disable tooltips in Akregator, which is apparently doable via window rules.
Is there a user-friendly and current explanation of how window rules work? What I've found in the wiki isn't useful. At the moment, I'm right-clicking on a window header, then MoreActions->SpecialWindowSettings, and then "WindowMatching->DetectWindowProperties". The cursor changes to a cross. After that, I'm clueless. |

the cross is used to select and identify the window that the rules are to be applied to, because you wish to affect a tooltip window you'll need to set a delay to allow the tooltips to be shown before it can be selected (sort of like in Ksnapshot/Spectacle)
once the tooltips window is selected you then use the other tabs to alter how it is displayed, guessing size of 0,0 maybe |

Thanks. That's not working here. Regardless of the delay factor, tooltips will not appear in Akregator when the "Special Window Settings" window is open: I set a delay, move the cursor to hover over a feed's name, no tooltip. Wait until cross appears, no tooltip. |

installed aKregator and confirm tooltips not showing when using delay, doesn't work for pull down menus either - no idea why, maybe they're not windows or need to be identified differently (window role or window type) or it can't be done outside of changing the code.
why did you think this was doable with window rules? |

that's also what I expected but it doesn't seem to work that way you could post a wishlist on bugs.kde.org for either ability to select pop ups in widow rules or an option to disable tooltips in aKregator (assuming they don't already exist) |
