Permanent window shortcut

Tue Oct 18, 2016 4:15 pm
Greetings Community

I'm assigning shortcuts to windows using the "more actions -> window shortcut" menu (not sure the original english names, my system is in French). It works well, however if I close the window, I have to recreate the shortcut.

Is there a way to make window shortcuts permanent?

Thanks in advance

You might set up Application shortcuts instead, since those are tied to the application that created the window rather than the window itself.

Thanks for your answer

If my understanding is correct, application shortcuts are used to start an application, what I'm looking for is to switch (ie bring to front) a given window...

Thanks

I'm sorry, I misread your post as Window Settings for which there is an application-level analog.
I'm not sure if there is a way to bind a shortcut to Activate Window of Application x.

The KDE has window rules: https://userbase.kde.org/KWin_Rules

User can set a shortcut to the application/window:

Another option is to use the wmctrl:

Code: Select all
WMCTRL(1)                         General Commands Manual                        WMCTRL(1)

NAME
wmctrl - interact with a EWMH/NetWM compatible X Window Manager.

SYNOPSIS
       wmctrl [ options | actions ]...

DESCRIPTION
wmctrl  is  a command that can be used to interact with an X Window manager that is
compatible with the EWMH/NetWM specification.  wmctrl can query the window  manager
for  information,  and  it  can  request  that certain window management actions be
       taken...
