Nvidia legacy and Nouveau Woes

Sun Nov 06, 2016 9:09 am
After having problems with Nvidia's stuff, went over to Nouveau. I like Nouveau. However, that began kicking on Firefox so had to go back to Nvidia. Have old card so using the legacy-304xx version.

The newer kwin versions (Debian Sid) no longer work correctly with either! Nouveau will freeze up. Nvidia will work fine within KDE, but any outside application will lack window decorations. If I toggle around the compositor settings, I can temporarily get the decorations back. Next login, they are gone again.

No difference between the OpenGLs or Xrender (though some users report better results with this one).

Had recommendation to downgrade to "testing" versions of all the 304xx and related packages. Have not succeeded with this. The process of re-getting and re-losing the decorations seems to imply this can be fixed in kwin (kwin-x11?). What can be done?

BTW, what ever happened to "Raster?"

Obligatory "me too" post, Plasma5 in Sid is unusable for me at the moment; screen goes black after about five seconds, even with a new user.

I'm sure they'll get fixed,
