KWin performance way worse on Nvidia (vs. Intel HD)

Hi everyone !

Using KDE Neon on an OK machine (7th gen i3). I used to use an Nvidia GPU (with proprietary drivers). It wasn't flawless but seemed OK. One day I decided to remove the Nvidia GPU and use the integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 .

Of course, the IHD 630 is not good enough for big games (although it's OK for many simple ones). BUT, kwin is absolutely constantly butter smooth with the Intel chip while quite a few animations are not with the fast Nvidia GPU (1060 GTX). Especially things like windows resizing. Now that I got used to the Intel Integrated Graphics, it feels painful to lookat Kwin again and less responsive with the Nvidia GPU.

Apart from the well know fix for tearing (script in /etc/profile.d/kwin.sh with
#!/bin/bash
export __GL_YIELD=USLEEP

Is there anything I can do to improve the situation ? I have no tearing, but kwin feels not that great.

I googled a lot and couldn't find an answer to this. I used to think that kwin was just always like that. But no, it can be absolutely stellar with the proper GPU / driver !

Cheers !
