Since installing KDE, some of the windows stay visible after being closed. I don;t know what classes of window exist, but these windows are those for dialogs - notifications, warnings and such.
When I close them, they are no longer active, they can't be focused on or interacted with in any way, but they stay visible. If you click in the window, the window underneath receives the click. I would guess that the area the window occupied is not being redrawn, but when I click Show Desktop, the window goes away and when another application is chosen to bring back all the windows, these zombie windows return as well. Reproduce: Generate a window of the right type. I can do this by selecting the settings dialog in ukuu. Close the window, either with Close or with OK Expected behaviour: Window closes and is no longer visible Actual Behaviour: Window remains visible, but is transparent to clicks. Window stays visible until another window is moved on top. I've been living with this annoyance for a couple of months. I can deal with it - it barely impacts on productivity, but it's just a bit depressing as it's a constant reminder that after 10 or 15 years, Linux is still failing to deliver the basics. Anyway, moaning aside - anyone got more info on this bug, or where I might find workarounds? |

Those darn-misbehaving-zombie-type windows...!
I've just accepted this as it is what it is and go with the Kill Windows combo And because it doesn't always do the kill effectively... I'm keen to finally see a real solution!
KDE neon 5.20 - Plasma 5.20.5 - Frameworks 5.78 - Qt 5.15.2 - Kernel 5.4.0-65

Even though this is an old thread - the bug still seems to exist.
A workaround to get rid of the zombie windows is to disable transparency for floating windows: System Preferences > Workspace Behavior > Workspace Effects > Transparency. Not perfect, but at least it lets me work normally again. |

Bug still present as of 9/6/22 in latest updates of kde. The workaround of disabling the transparency effect worked, and the zombie window did disappear.
Weird ****. I like transparency too :/ |
