I run a Thinkpad Carbon X1 with a "OneLink" dock. Two external displays are connected to the dock via DisplayPort.
On an X session everything works fine, with the external displays detected dynamically without issue if the notebook is plugged into the dock or removed. On a Wayland session, though, the displays are only detected if they are connected pre-login. In other words: If I connect the notebook to the dock while at the SDDM screen, before logging in, they're detected just fine and things just work. When I pack up for the day and disconnect the dock, this is detected fine as well and the display settings shift to just the builtin display. When I connect to the dock again, though, the external displays are not recognized. Other devices on the dock (power; LAN; keyboard and mouse) are detected just fine, but the displays are not present. If I close my session and go back to SDDM, the external displays are picked up again. OS: Debian Testing
dmesg output from plugging in, while on X ( I don't have the wayland output available atm but will try to get that added in the next bit when I log out/in and not kill my workday ![]()
