Touchscreen and touchpad, KWayland

Fri Apr 19, 2019 6:23 am
So I have a Dell Latitude 7480. It's got a hi-dpi touchscreen -- KInfoCenter reports ELAN as the vendor. It works as expected.

The touchpad, however, works great under X, but does not work under Wayland. I get generic support but all of the touchpad-specific support is greyed out in system settings. In System Settings -> Input Devices -> Touchpad settings, it shows device "DLL07A0:01:044E120B". I can't enable tap-to-click, change sensitivity or any other touchpad related options.

Running the latest OpenSUSE Tumbleweed -- x86_64. If I login to Plasma with X11 selected, the touchpad works as expected and I can change settings as needed. Running Plasma with Wayland I get the aforementioned behavior (settings are greyed out).

I could stick with X11, but I'm trying to take advantage of better hi-dpi screen support under Wayland. When I run X11, I have to tweak Plasma to make the screen readable. After I make those adjustments, I get all kinds of crazy visual artifacting (redraw errors, pixelated windows, etc). It "just works" under Wayland.

Is there a way to make the touchpad work like a touchpad under Wayland, or is this an issue of libinput not supporting the touchpad? This is my first deep dive into Wayland so I'm a little out of my element.
