Whenever I edit kwinrc and change BorderlessMaximizedWindows=false to BorderlessMaximizedWindows=true and move this line to top under [Windows], I run

qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin reconfigure

and maximize a window again. The window shows borderless.

But when I restart my PC, borders show for maximized apps. I see kwinrc only to find out that it's back to how it was before I edited it. Meaning that BorderlessMaximizedWindows is false instead of true and is in line 5 instead of 1.

What causes it to revert to its default settings and what's the correct way to permanently change kwinrc settings?

Just realized that someone has already posted this issue and has managed to solve it.
