Hi

Gigabyte A520M DS3H
AMD Ryzen 3 3100
16GB ram

I have searched online to find the answer, but cannot find a definite answer.
I want a cheap GPU, would prefer AMD Sapphire 550 but this is no longer in production.

This is going to be used for Home Office type work, Krita, Spreadsheets, Word and a few times a year, video editing for 1080P, but NO Games.

Do all 3 NVIDIA's work without problems ?
I want it to work without any problems on KDE Plasma 5.19 and to be smooth and reliable ?

Thanks

I would think it is down to your power supply. The power supply in my PC is rated at 210W which means I can use a 30W rated video card or max a 75W rated video card. The GT 1030 2Gb is rated at 30W and will work with a power supply up to 180W. The GT 1050ti 4Gb is a 75W card and needs a minimum of a 210W power supply. You must also take into account the size of your case, will it take a full size GPU or a low profile GPU?

I'm using a MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4Gb LP Graphics Board with KDE Neon. It's the max my PC will take.

My machine has an AMD CPU with onboard graphics. I was glad to upgrade to an nVidia GPU, altohugh I do prefer AMD CPUs lately!

Hi

Thanks for that info, the PSU will be 550W, so no problem there :)

It seems like the myth that Nvidia doesn't work well on KDE is not correct ?

Depends on the drivers you use, the problem is usually with the proprietary driver, Nouveau drivers should just work.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I've been happily running the nVidia 450 driver. I just ran

sudo software-properties-qt

and notice that version 455 of the proprietary driver has been released. Time to update and reboot!
